  5. Ribosomal protein S19 is one of the proteins from the small ribosomal subunit.
  6. In Escherichia  coli,  S19  is  known  to  form  a complex with S13 that binds
  7. strongly to  16S  ribosomal RNA. S19 belongs to a family of ribosomal proteins
  8. which, on the basis of sequence similarities [1,2], groups:

  10.  - Eubacterial S19.
  11.  - Archaebacterial S19.
  12.  - Algal and plant chloroplast S19.
  13.  - Cyanelle S19.
  14.  - Plant mitochondrial S19.
  15.  - Eukaryotic S15 ('rig' protein).

  17. S19 is  a  protein  of 88 to 144 amino-acid residues. Our signature pattern is
  18. based on  the  few  conserved  positions  located in the C-terminal section of
  19. these proteins.
